Drafting Supervisor – Katy, TX

We’re seeking a hands-on Drafting Supervisor to lead and mentor a team of drafters in creating detailed, code-compliant engineering drawings for refrigeration and oil & gas systems, while driving automation and process improvements using AutoCAD Electrical and Inventor - this is a full-time, onsite role based in Katy, TX, and local candidates are strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development

• Supervise and mentor a team of drafters producing detailed drawings for compressors, pressure vessels, piping systems, and full packages.
• Hire, train, and coach drafting staff to build skills and maintain high morale.
• Conduct performance evaluations and partner with HR on employee relations matters.

Technical Oversight

• Review and approve part, subassembly, and full package layouts for compliance with ASME, API, TEMA, and ASHRAE standards.
• Ensure drawing accuracy, version control, and document integrity using AutoCAD PDM systems.
• Standardize electrical drawings and improve engineering workflows using AutoCAD Electrical or similar tools.

Process Improvement & Automation

• Develop and implement automated design workflows using Autodesk iLogic to reduce errors and boost productivity.
• Continuously improve drafting tools, standards, and automation strategies.

Collaboration

• Work closely with engineering, sales, and production teams to align on design intent and project timelines.
• Assign work, manage team resources, and ensure timely, high-quality deliverables.

Requirements:

• 5+ years in a supervisory drafting/design role.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Mechanical, AutoCAD Electrical, Inventor, PDM, and iLogic .
• Strong communication and team-building skills.
• Proven experience implementing automation in drafting processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Desk/computer work for extended periods.
• Occasional lifting up to 15 lbs.
• May require travel to job sites.
