Position: Child Life Specialist (20 hours/week) Responsibilities Support patients and families in our high acuity Medical and Surgical Intensive Care (MSICU) units through therapeutic activities. Participate in activities that support patients facing trauma, grief, complicated diagnoses, and highly acute medical situations. Facilitate coping, preparation, and education related to the hospital experience as part of a team of Child Life Specialists. Engage in therapeutic activities and programs to meet psychosocial and developmental needs and assist patients in adjusting to healthcare experiences. Serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team. Delegate work assignments to volunteers and participate in clinical training of student interns. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life. Completion of a 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist. Problem-solving skills utilizing child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced-based knowledge. Strong writing and communication skills, including conflict resolution, to work effectively as part of a team. Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire.
