Description

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager, the MA Supervisor will be responsible for the overall daily supervision and management of the Medical Assistants (MAs) and Lead MAs. The MA Supervisor maintains a professional standard of practice and leadership. Implement a team-based approach to health care delivery to ensure departmental effectiveness and efficiency and achievement of departmental goals. Ensures that all MA- related clinical operations contribute to the delivery of quality health care within the Medical Department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises MA's

  • Provides professional and technical supervision to medical assistant staff. Through effective performance management, supports staff career growth and development and holds staff accountable to FH policies and procedures.
  • Plans for routine assessment and remediation of clinical competency of all MAs
  • Ensure all MA staff are compliant with CLIA waived testing and regulations.
  • Develops and disseminates work and coverage schedules for all MAs
  • Reports on issues of concern to, and meets regularly with, the Clinical Services Manager.
  • Participates in the investigation of patient complaints that relate to MAs, clinical flow, as well as implementation of corrective action when indicated.
  • Oversee daily operations of assigned floors, completion of in-baskets messages, and process refills
  • Liaison between MAs and all other members of the clinical team
  • Ensures proper staffing levels
  • Provides training and implementation for team-based care.
  • conducts interview and screening of MA candidates, onboarding, ongoing training, and evaluation (oral and written) of MAs within budgetary guidelines, to provide staffing for efficient operation of the clinic
  • Other duties as assigned

Ensures quality health care delivery within the Medical Department

  • Assists the Clinical Services Manager with implementation of quality improvement efforts involving MAs.
  • Directs the ordering of supplies as needed and oversees inventory management systems to ensure adequate supply levels and fiscal responsibility
  • Arranges for the maintenance and repair of equipment used in the delivery of patient care.
  • Ensures patient care areas are kept clean, safe and orderly.
  • Supports precepting of medical assistant students
  • Works closely with staff and interdepartmental program staff to ensure coordination of patient care.
  • Facilitates communication within and across departments to ensure cross-departmental coordination and teamwork.
  • Ensures a safe environment for the delivery of health care, including fire safety, occupational exposure, biomedical review of equipment, and proper use of equipment and supplies
  • Provides direct patient care as needed to effectively and efficiently manage patient flow, walk-ins, and incoming telephone, portal, and in-basket messages.
  • Promotes and ensures staff delivery of excellent customer service.

Educational/In-service

  • Maintains and enhances professional skills.
  • Serves on committees or work teams, as needed.
  • Participates in Health Center meetings, as required.
Requirements

  • Education: Medical Assistant, or equivalent work experience in clinical operations
  • Current Massachusetts license as applicable.
  • Ability to work harmoniously with diverse groups of individuals

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least five years of primary care experience as a Licensed professional (MA)
  • At least two years of Supervisory or management experience in healthcare
